  About the Class

  Foundations of Mineral Ownership is a beginner-friendly course for people who are new to mineral ownership or want to strengthen their mineral-management fundamentals. Local chapter leaders guide the three-hour class, followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer session before the NARO East Convention begins.

  This is an in-person class and is not available for virtual attendance.
  

  What You’ll Learn

  • Basic property-law concepts relevant to mineral ownership
  • The typical mineral-ownership sequence: leasing, drilling, production, division orders, and revenue
  • Oil and gas operations fundamentals
  • Common types of mineral and royalty ownership
  • Decimal and Net Revenue Interest (NRI) calculations
  • Practical data-management basics

  Important Information

  NARO members who are not currently enrolled in the Mineral Management Program (MMP) may attend by purchasing the class ticket. The class fee covers this course only. NARO East Convention registration and Mineral Management Program fees are separate.

  • Eligible Mineral Management Program participants earn 3.5 NARO credit hours for attending this class.

  About the Course

  The Mineral Management Review Course is an engaging four-hour session designed to reinforce and expand knowledge gained through the National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO) Mineral Management Program (MMP). Offered several times throughout the year, the course gives participants additional opportunities to strengthen their understanding of key mineral-management concepts.

  Why Attend

  Although optional within the MMP, this course offers a valuable opportunity to review essential topics, ask questions, and sharpen the skills needed to manage mineral interests confidently. Participants receive four Educational Credits (ECs) for attending.

  Important Information

  • Course schedule: 8:00 a.m.–noon, before the National Convention begins
  • Course fee: $100
  • Open to NARO members, including those not currently enrolled in the MMP; auditors are welcome
  • Pre-registration is required for all attendees
  • Auditing the course does not enroll you in the Mineral Management Program
  • Course registration is separate from NARO National Convention registration

  Review Mineral Management Program policies and procedures.

  Attendance Policy

  A minimum of six registered attendees is required to provide an interactive and valuable experience. If the minimum enrollment is not met, registrants will be contacted and all course fees will be refunded.

  Published Exam Session

  The currently published Registered Mineral Manager (RMM) and Certified Mineral Manager (CMM) exam session is Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 8:30–10:30 a.m. CST. This page covers that session only.

  What to Bring

  • A calculator: required for many questions; calculators are not provided
  • Two sharpened pencils: limited extras may be available
  • Scratch paper: provided at the exam

  Testing Rules

  • This is a closed-book exam. Only the exam and provided scratch paper may be used.
  • Cell phones, tablets, smart watches, laptops, and study materials must be completely put away.
  • Electronic devices may not be used as calculators and may not remain visible or accessible during testing.
  • Failure to follow testing rules may result in dismissal and review of certification candidacy.

  Exam Timing

  • CMM exam: 90 minutes
  • RMM exam: 90 minutes

  Before You Register

  Registrar approval is required to register for and take either exam. After approval, you will receive a $100 invoice for exam admission. Questions may be sent to registrar@naro-us.org.
