2024 OK-NARO Legislative Reception
Tuesday, March 26, 2024
The Jones Assembly, Oklahoma City
OK-NARO hosted a Legislative Reception for its members and members of the Oklahoma Legislature on March 26 at The Jones Assembly in Oklahoma City. Over 30 people gathered to socialize, to have some fun with friends, and to learn of bills and happenings at the State Capitol. Food and beverages were plentiful and the atmosphere engaging. A big “shoutout” to Jay Freede, OK-NARO Treasurer and Convention Committee Chairman, for organizing and planning this fine event!

Chapter Update
Scott Manning, President, OK-NARO Chapter
It’s been awhile since I’ve touched base with you, but it’s been a busy winter with both OK-NARO as well as our national organization. There are a lot of events and opportunities for education and involvement on the horizon. We are always looking to inform, support, educate and advocate for our members – it’s what we do. A lot goes unnoticed, but we have committees working to serve your needs as well as OK-NARO’s.
You should have received several e-mail messages from NARO National as OK-NARO hosts a Legislative Reception Tuesday, March 26 at The Jones Assembly T-Room in Oklahoma City. This is an event which affords members the opportunity to meet and discuss issues of interest with legislators in a social setting. I hope you seize this time to express your thoughts and concerns to those who can take them to the Capitol!
New webinar series are rolling out! The “Meet the President” series has just concluded and, in conjunction with NARO National, we are hosting a series of discussions on topics which members like you have expressed interest. Look for e-mail blasts from NARO, ads in this issue of the ROAR as well as the NARO website at www.naro-us.org for more information. The next scheduled webinar is Wednesday, April 17, at 12:00 PM CDT titled “I Just Received an Offer to Lease My Minerals….What Should I Do Now?” and will be hosted by the NARO Rocky Mountain Chapter’s Rob Prentice and Ben Kinney.
The big event is here! The OK-NARO Annual Meeting and Convention is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 – Friday, May 24 at The Skirvin Hilton Hotel, 1 Park Avenue, in Oklahoma City. Be sure to register early on the NARO site (www.naro-us.org/events). Early bird pricing at $299 member/$375 non-member is available through April 21. Discounted hotel room rates are $169/night through April 21. Join us for the “Lunch and Learn” Field Trip Wednesday and the fun Thursday “Night at the Ballgame” outing. Details on speakers and the agenda will be announced shortly. Come and have a great time learning with other OK-NARO members and friends!
Be on the lookout in the U.S. Mail for your OK-NARO ballot as it is time to elect members to the 2024-2025 Board of Directors. Six Director’s terms are due to expire in May, so be sure to read the bios of each candidate and choose those who you think will best represent OK-NARO in its future endeavors! Please check your personal information on file with NARO and update your address as necessary to ensure you receive your ballot.
In other news, OK-NARO was awarded $100,000 in undistributed, or residual, funds as a result of the 2009 $155 million settlement to Oklahoma royalty owners in the case of Simmons v Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. The funds were distributed by the District Court of Caddo County per the equitable “Cy Pres” doctrine. Originally intended for the Royalty Owners Coalition of Oklahoma (ROCO), of which OK-NARO is a founding member, the OK-NARO Board approved these funds to be invested in a $100,000 CD with our bank, JPMorgan Chase, at a rate near 5%. Funds already on account with our Chapter were distributed to ROCO for its use as operating capital for our lobbyists working for OK-NARO at the Capitol and Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
Please reach out to all of those you know who own minerals in Oklahoma and tell them what NARO means to you! Ask them to join and participate! Invite your friends to the OK-NARO Convention and share the experience!
Please contact your Chapter and let us know if you need anything. We are always here to help!
Best,
Scott
